BVB icon voted top goalkeeper: Kicker magazine hails Weidenweller as "world class"

[6.06.] Still waiting for a call-up to the national team, Roman Weidenfeller has been dubbed "the world´s best non-international goalkeeper" by the German media. The Dortmunder, who was the top-rated goalkeeper in the Bundesliga in 2004 and 2004, is regarded as the most consistent performer in Germany´s top tier for years. The pain caused by the narrow defeat and especially by the last-minute nature of the defeat naturally still weighed heavy on their minds. Wembley calling

[1.05.] When the final whistle was finally blown at the Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, celebrations erupted. Roman Weidenfeller sank to the ground, "totally exhausted", he later admitted. The Dortmund goalkeeper remained lying there for minutes while his team-mates were dancing, singing and celebrating around him. more

[16.12.] Borussia Dortmund finish the first half of the season in third place. "We are at the top end of the table which is a good foundation for the rest of the season," said Jürgen Klopp, and looking back at the first 17 Bundesliga games, he added: "The team definitively had a successful first half of the season." They could have been a few points better off, the BVB coach admitted, but he also said: "Last year at this stage we had 34 points in the league and four in the Champions League. Now we have 30 points in Germany, but another 14 in Europe." more

Standing ovations for the Double winners

[25.11.] The members´ meeting of the club known as Borussia 09 Dortmund was able to witness a stage bedecked in banners saluting a cup and league double. The club is booming with membership, almost certainly on the back of the double-win, growing by some 20,000 to a level "somewhere above 75,000". Dr Reinhard Rauball was a proud man as he addressed the 1,293 members gathered in the Westfalenhalle this Sunday afternoon in a meeting marked by so much spontaneous applause. more

The magical night of Amsterdam

[22.11.] It was an almost perfect night, and nights like the one in Amsterdam on Wednesday don´t happen every day. With a comfortable 4-1 win at Ajax Borussia Dortmund not only earned another three points in the UEFA Champions League, they also once again imposed themselves on the international stage. more

International friendlies: BVB with eight Germany internationals!

[15.11.] Germany´s 0-0 draw to the Netherlands at the AmsterdamArena on Wednesday as well as the 1-1 draw to Turkey by their U21 side will become nothing more than a footnote in the country´s football history. From a Dortmund point of view, however, it was a quite a special night as no less than 10 players, who either play at BVB or went through their youth system, featured in either of these two games. more

Borussia Dortmund and FC Schalke 04 condemn Derby riots

[22.10.] The figures are sobering. Saturday´s Revierderby, watched by a SIGNAL IDUNA PARK crowd of 80,645, was abused by a few hundred violence-prone fans of FC Schalke 04 and Borussia Dortmund who breached the "rules" published prior to the game by both clubs and knowingly endangered the safety of the overwhelmingly peaceful majority of fans and the security forces. more

Lukasz Piszczek sees his future at BVB and signs contract extension until 2017

[22.10.] The week starts off with great news: Lukasz Piszczek, chased by top clubs across Europe and arguably the best full-back in the Bundesliga, sees his future at Borussia Dortmund! The 27-year-old Poland international has signed a contract extension with BVB that will keep him at the club until 30 June 2017 to re-emphasise his commitment to the German champions. more
