Gündogan impressed with a lively display and set up the first goal with a great pass, while Hummels put in another solid performance. "Both lads played very well," said BVB coach Jürgen Klopp, who was also pleased that Germany´s coach Joachim Löw shared his view. Marcel Schmelzer, Marco Reus and Mario Götze were forced to pull out of the friendly due to injury and sickness; Sven Bender, who had been called up late, watched the game from the bench.
Poland, playing with BVB´s Jakub Blaszczykowski and Robert Lewandowski, suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Ireland. Lukasz Piszczek, who had also been part of the squad, returned to Dortmund early due to groin problems. And Nuri Sahin played 60 minutes for Turkey in their 2-0 defeat at home against the Czech Republic.
Moritz Leitner was introduced in the second half of Germany´s U21 match against Italy (0-1), while a free-kick goal from Leonardo Bittencourt helped Germany´s U20 team to a 2-0 win, also against Italy.
