Borussia vs. Bayern sold out within a few hours

[12.03.] The fans started queuing as early as Sunday afternoon, pitching their tents at the Rheinlanddamm to be the first in line. At eight oīclock on Monday morning, staff handed out hot coffee to those waiting outside the BVB office just for one reason - getting their hands on a ticket for Borussia Dortmundīs home game against Bayern Munich. By late Monday morning, all tickets were gone.

Got there! Happy faces in front of the ticket booth.
At times, the queue stretched exactly 184 metres, with the supporters lining in rows of two or three around BVBīs headquarters. The demand at the Megastore in Hörde was just as high. And in BVBīs online ticket shop up to 500 people had simultaneous access to the booking system, while the ticket hotline had already had 300.000 dialling attempts by Friday, the day tickets for the Bayern game went on sale exclusively for club members. Up to 600 (!) phone lines were open, and most of them were busy all day. A similar number of people called in on Monday, trying to be one of the lucky ones grabbing a ticket for the Bundesligaīs top match on Wednesday, 11 April.

Patience was needed in front of the BVB office on Monday morning.

With itīs 80.720 seats, Germanyīs largest stadium is not nearly big enough to meet the high demand for this game. Why is that? Well, given the fact that almost all of BVBīs home matches have been sold out this season, the demand for tickets becomes even greater towards the end of the season. And Bayern Munich have also taken their full allocation (8.000) of tickets (Hannover and Mainz, for example, sold 5.000 tickets less), which means the demand is higher than usually, while the supply (ticket allotment) is a lot less. And last but not least, many BVB fans actually donīt bother at all whether this Bundesliga tie is played on a Friday or a Sunday or, as in this case, on a Wednesday night.
