Kuba agrees to a new contract until 2016

[24.07.] Borussia Dortmund and Jakub "Kuba" Blaszczykowski have agreed on a three-year contract extension that will keep the Poland skipper at the German champions until 2016. The agreement was reached and announced at BVB´s training camp in Bad Ragaz, Switzerland. After extending the contracts of Mats Hummels and Mario Götze, BVB have successfully managed to secure another key player on a long-term deal.

"I´m very happy to stay in Dortmund. There are not many clubs that have such big crowds and that have managed to do what we´ve achieved here in the last two years," said Blaszczykowski, adding: "I´m very happy about the new contract."

The 26-year-old is the German double champions´ third-longest serving player after Sebastian Kehl (since January 2002) and Roman Weidenfeller (July 2002), joining BVB in the summer of 2007. "When I arrived here, Borussia weren´t as good as now," said Blaszczykowski before addressing sporting director Michael Zorc sitting next to him: "Since then Michael and the club have done a lot of things right."

Zorc said that he´s happy that they were able to quickly wrap up the contract talks while in Bad Ragaz, talks that had been put on hold because of the Euros. "Kuba is wearing the BVB emblem on his heart and he has proved, especially last season, why he is so important to us," said Zorc.

The Polish player is determined to pick up on these performances which included six goals and 10 assists. "I always performed the way I expect of myself. And I want to continue like this," said Kuba who´s deliberately setting himself - and the team - high standards: "We also want to do better in the Champions League, because we have the quality for it."

His team-mates applauded the contract extension. "We are all pleased that he will stay with us," said Ilkay Gündogan on behalf of the other players. "Because Kuba, the way he is charging down the right flank, is a player who can decide games."
