"Thank you, thank you, thank you", Norbert Dickel shouted through the stadium speakers, and all fans rose from their seats and thanked them with a huge round of applause for their contributions for the club over the years.
Dede and Sahin then together walked to the south stand where a number of banners were held up. While Sahin, who joined BVB as a 12-year-old and now moves to Real Madrid, did the "wave" with the supporters, fan-favourite Dede went on a lap of honour.
He was carrying a pile of yellow T-shirts which he gave away to the fans. It said: "Thank you for 13 wonderful years".
