Borussia Dortmund deserved to win the game due to a strong second half: Eintracht had more shots on goal before the break (5-3), BVB had more shots on goal after the break (9-3).

Matchwinner: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had the most shots of all players (five). After the break his four attempts on goal were even one more than the complete Frankfurt team (three). The Gabon international has scored one goal in all three competitive matches against Frankfurt this season.

Whirlwind: Ousmane Dembélé was involved in five shots on goal (he took three shots himself, two assists); no player in the final was involved in more shots on goal. The Frenchman scored the goal to make it 1-0 with his first shot on goal and he was also the youngest player in the starting line-up of both teams. This was Dembélé's second Cup goal, he scored the 3-2 winning goal in the semi-final away to FC Bayern.

Record: BVB has won 45 of the 93 competitive games against Eintracht (16 draws, 32 defeats) - there is no other club Borussia has won against more often since when the Bundesliga first started.

Series: Borussia Dortmund has not lost any of the last twelve matches in the DFB Cup after 90 or 120 minutes and this means they have established a new club record.

Shots on target: both teams managed to hit the target with half of their shots on goal: Dortmund six from twelve shots, Frankfurt four from eight.
