"leuchte auf" supports campaign for road traffic safety
Together with mascot EMMA, the BVB Foundation "leuchte auf" ("light up") is supporting the campaign entitled "Yes, for sure! Road traffic safety with EMMA" that is being run by the City of Dortmund's Youth Office and which is championing the cause of road traffic safety for children.
The campaign begins with EMMA from the BVB KidsClub at a bicycle rally on 22 September in the city district of Hombruch. It is being organised by the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC), the schools in Hombruch and the Youth Office.
The aim is to highlight the issue of road traffic safety with numerous activities for preschool and primary school children, and to increase drivers' consideration for children when on the road. "leuchte auf" hopes to appeal to parents whose task it is to familiarise school children with the challenges posed by road traffic.
The campaign will be accompanied by five different events in Dortmund. Besides the bicycle rally, the opening event of the five, activities will be taking place at different school locations and will endeavour, for example, to strengthen children's self-reliance with respect to road traffic. Furthermore, there will be the opportunity to complete a bicycle safety training course and obtain a black and yellow "BVB Cycling Proficiency Certificate". With the aid of sprayed yellow "EMMA footprints" at selected positions on the street, the children will also learn about thoroughfares and the rules signified by traffic signs.
The campaign will end with a road traffic safety training course on 15 June 2019. Together with EMMA and other figures, an interactive supporting programme as well as a photo exhibition of the campaign with EMMA will be on offer besides the road traffic safety training course. Everyone is welcome to attend the event and entrance is free.
Alongside "leuchte auf" and the Dortmund Youth Office, the Round Table for the Prevention of Childhood Accidents from the Child Protection Agency, the ADFC Dortmund as well as the police and German Road Safety Association are also cooperating as part of the project. The BVB Foundation is contributing a donation amounting to €8,000 towards it.
