Borussia Dortmund have recorded their sixth victory in seven 2015/16 pre-season friendly matches after beating 31-time Italian Serie A champions Juventus 2-0 (1-0) courtesy of goals from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (40) and Marco Reus (64).

Felix Ulrich reports

With only five days to go before their UEFA Europa League qualifying campaign gets under way against Wolfsberger AC in Klagenfurt, Borussia have issued a statement of intent by beating an "Old Lady" team boasting the likes of Mario Mandzukic, Paul Pogba and Gianluigi Buffon. The Black and Yellows were visibly dominant in the first period as Thomas Tuchel's charges outshone a Juventus side that had only begun their pre-season training preparations a week earlier.

Mkhitaryan was presented with a gilt-edged chance to open the scoring in the third minute but squandered the early opportunity before Reus, who played in a central position behind Aubameyang in a 4-2-3-1 formation in the first half, came close to scoring from a free-kick a short while later.

Juventus largely attempted to nullify the threat of Marco Reus by fouling the midfielder

The 19,694 spectators packed into a sold-out AFG Arena in St. Gallen watched on in amazement as Dortmund dominated their opposition in overwhelming fashion. However, Mkhitaryan (25), Aubameyang (Schmelzer, 27) and Kampl (Reus, 32) all spurned chances to break the deadlock or were thwarted by veteran 'keeper Gianluigi Buffon in the Juventus goal (37). By the half-hour mark, the "Old Man" had already kept the "Old Lady" in the game several times with his agile reactions.

But even the four-time World Goalkeeper of the Year could only look on helplessly in the 40th minute as Mkhitaryan created trouble down the left flank before squaring the ball into the centre of the penalty area for Aubameyang to slot into the bottom right corner from 16 metres out. At the other end, Juventus did create one golden chance in the first half only for an unmarked Mandzukic to head over (38).

A Marco Reus solo effort makes it 2-0

Head coach Thomas Tuchel made seven changes at the break, leaving only Aubameyang, Sokratis, Hummels and Reus on for the second period. That did little to disrupt the flow of BVB's play, though, as Jonas Hofmann soon came close to doubling their lead (53). But the second goal did eventually come following a world-class solo run from Marco Reus.

After winning possession on the edge of his own area, the 26-year-old embarked upon a lightning-quick run downfield and nutmegged a defender on the edge of the Juventus penalty area before setting himself up for a shot and confidently firing the ball right-footed past the Bianconeri custodian (64) to score a SENSATIONAL goal.

BVB fit as a fiddle until the final whistle

The closing stages proved to be a more balanced affair with Juve giving very little away at the back, although BVB continued to attack with passion, freshness and enthusiasm before Leitner missed the chance to make it 3-0 in stoppage time. It was undoubtedly a very strong performance by the Black and Yellows, who had 23 shots to their opponents 7 and ultimately recorded a very special victory.

Gündogan satisfied with the 90 minutes

"You can be very happy if you beat Juventus by a 2-0 scoreline, and especially with the way in which we won the ball back and piled on the pressure against them. We had a number of chances to score that we carved out brilliantly," said Germany international Ilkay Gündogan after the match, before quickly turning his attention to Thursday's UEFA Europa League third round qualifier: "Wolfsberger AC are a little bit further into their new campaign than we are. We need to fulfil our full potential when we go out onto the pitch, and we want to use this quality to make a success of the first and second leg."
