Borussia Dortmund won their last friendly match in preparation for the new season 2-0 (1-0) against the Spanish first-division team Betis Sevilla. Adrian Ramos and Oliver Kirch were the goal scorers at Wuppertal’s Stadion am Zoo, both were set up by Moritz Leitner.

Two days after the Europa League match against Wolfsberg, Thomas Tuchel left all the players from the starting eleven on Thursday in Dortmund. The game against Betis was thought of as an endurance test for everyone else. Castro, Kagawa and Kampl, who were substitutes in Klagenfurt, were in the starting line-up, as well as Ramos after having had months out with an injury. As Subotic and Durm were not available due to injury, Bender (central defender) and Kirch (left back) had to help out in unfamiliar positions.

Betis didn’t take the offensive in the first half in front of a crowd of 11 434. The Black and Yellows had more of the game, with Blaszczykowski being unlucky with his finishing on three occasions. In the 13. minute the Pole hit the outside of the post after being released by Leitner. After a nice combination starting with Kirch, then over Ramos and Kampl, “Kuba” had his attempt cleared off the line by an outfield player (40.) and shortly before half time he appeared free in front of goal again after a pass from Ramos, however keeper Adan showed his class and cleared the ball (44.).

So the half-time lead through the opening goal by Ramos in the 40th minute was well deserved: Leitner and Blaszczykowski with a one-two, and then the accurate pass to the Colombian, who beat the goalkeeper and scored to make it 1:0.

Großkreutz and Dudziak came on for Blaszczykowski and Ramos in the second half. Kampl switched to the right-hand side. BVB continued to have everything under control, however they had to withstand two moments of real danger, when Van der Vaart ran in on goal alone, but Weidenfeller would not be beaten (63.) and in minute 70. when Piccini took a shot from a narrow angle but missed. On the other side Kampl just missed the goal (77.). In the 84. minute Leitner cleared the way for Kirch who calmly slotted in to make it 2-0 – and rewarded himself for the amount of running he did. However Leitner couldn't manage a goal of his own: his 20-metre shot just missed the target (90.). Sarr saved one on the goal line in the 89. minute for the already beaten Weidenfeller.

BVB: Weidenfeller – Stenzel, Ginter, Bender, Kirch – Leitner, Castro (73. Sarr) – Blaszczykowski (46. Großkreutz), Kagawa (73. Sauerland), Kampl – Ramos (46. Dudziak)
Goals 1:0 Ramos (40.), 2:0 Kirch (84.)
Attendance: 11 434 (in Wuppertal)
