Years ending in ‘6’ have a certain significance in the history of Borussia Dortmund: In 1956, BVB won the first of their eight German league titles, and in 1966, they became the first German team to win a European cup tournament.

In 1976, promotion back to the first division was won, in 1986, relegation was avoided in dramatic circumstances and, in 1996, a successful title defence could be celebrated. The year 2016 is, therefore, a year filled with anniversaries to be commemorated. The anniversary week will run from 9 to 14 May.

Things kick off on the 9 May with a grand celebration of tradition and history in the BORUSSEUM, Borussia Dortmund's club history museum located in the north east corner of the Signal Iduna Park, during which the 1966 Cup Winners' Cup winning team will be the focal point. In discussion with President Dr. Reinhard Rauball and presenter Gregor Schnittker, players from the time and fans who were either present for the final in Hampden Park or who sat listening keenly next to the radio will tell how they experienced the first European success for a German team. Video clips of games leading up to the final, the final itself, as well as images of the victory celebrations after the 2-1 defeat of Liverpool will be included as part of the evening's entertainment. The night will get underway at 19:00 CET. Doors open at 18:30 CET. A special exhibition will be unveiled as part of the proceedings.

Tickets for the event are already on sale at the BORUSSEUM and at all BVB Advanced Sale Points for €6.00 (concessions €4.00).

"BVB total!", the club's own dedicated TV channel, will be showing on 9 May the final games from 1956 and 1966 in their entirety.

On Thursday 12 May there will be another exciting event at the BORUSSEM, during which Norbert Dickel hosts title winners Michael Zorc, Lars Ricken and Wolfgang de Beer from the 1995/1996 season. In a relaxed discussion, the three BVB legends will talk about their experience of winning the German league title 20 years ago. Tickets for the evening will be allocated by raffle only.

The anniversary week 'final' will take place on 14 May around the Bundesliga game against Cologne F.C. After the game, past heroes will come together with this year's cup finalists for an evening meal. Why? Because Borussia unites people. And a golden future needs a history behind it.
