“An exceptional week with wins over Madrid and Munich“
Jürgen Klopp was delighted about the end of an “exceptional week in which we beat Real Madrid and Bayern Munich – and that in a great fashion.” But now the focus is all on the cup semi-final against Wolfsburg. “We will not have any training, just some extended recovery time.”
Five goals against Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, with no goal conceded in either game. It could really not have gone any better, could it?
We only should have spread the goals out differently. But in the end, it was an exceptional week in which we managed to beat Real Madrid and Bayern Munich – and that in a fantastic fashion. Bayern may have lacked a bit of focus after already claiming the title, but we came here with a plan and were able to implement most of it. It was hard work today, a lot of hard work.
What does this win mean with regard to second place?
These three points do us a lot of good. As points against Bayern Munich are like bonus points for any team, I’m very happy that we were able to snatch three of them.
The game in Munich was the ninth in 28 days, with the tenth coming up on Tuesday. How will you prepare for the cup semi-final against Wolfsburg?
There will be no training. We actually haven’t trained for a long time. There will be extended recovery time and a light session on Monday. We were not able to practice what we wanted to do here, we only talked about it. But today, for the first time in a long time, we were at least able to react and bring on four fresh players.
It was a courageous, and surprising starting line-up, with Lewandowski being left out.
We left the team alone for three days after the game in Madrid and only started our preparations for the Bayern Munich game today. For us, a game against the best team in the world is always the game of the year, and that’s why it didn’t cross my mind that I could leave anyone out of it. Lewi is our most-used player, while Pizszu was out injured for half a year and also needed a break. And Mats decided himself that he wanted to play.
