Borussia Dortmund have agreed to loan Dzenis Burnic to Dynamo Dresden until the end of the season. The 20-year-old is hoping to get some more playing time under his belt during his spell with the 10th-placed side in the second tier.

"We're hoping this loan will allow him to get more match practice at a good level in a good team in the second division," explained sporting director Michael Zorc.

Burnic has not yet featured for the Bundesliga league leaders in the current campaign, although he has made 11 appearances for the BVB U23s in the Regionalliga West since the 2018/19 season started. Burnic joined Borussia Dortmund at F-Youth level in 2006 and became German champions with the U17s and U19s in four consecutive seasons between 2014 and 2017 – partially as captain.

Having made a total of one Bundesliga and one Champions League appearance, the 20-year-old now joins Dynamo Dresden on loan. Zorc said: "It's a loan without an option [to buy]. He'll return as normal to us in the summer."

Kagawa released for talks

Meanwhile, Shinji Kagawa has currently been released by the club to conduct "final talks", according to Zorc. "However, I cannot yet state a definitive outcome." Furthermore, further talks involving other players from the Borussia Dortmund senior squad are being conducted in parallel, confirmed Zorc on Thursday lunchtime. It is still within the realm of possibility for there to be movement before the end of the transfer window, which happens tonight at midnight in some countries. "But I can rule out any new arrivals coming in," he said.
