Borussia Dortmund’s attacking midfielder Marco Reus will be out for longer than initially expected. The 25-year-old is now set to be sidelined until September.

Reus, who suffered a partial ligament tear in his left ankle in Germany’s World Cup warm-up match against Armenia on Friday, has undergone further examination at Dortmund's Knappschafts hospital over the last few days under the guidance of club doctor Markus Braun, in close consultation with Germany’s national team medical staff.

The tests revealed that, in addition to his ankle injury, Reus also suffered damage to the heel bone with an expected recovery time of about three months, according to Dr. Braun.
