Football inspires people and brings different generations together. Borussia Dortmund wants to give this "passion across the generations" a new platform and invites fathers, mothers and children who are enthusiastic about football to come to the BVB Family Cup.

At the heart of this unique tournament concept is the composition of the teams: fathers or mothers play together with their children in a team, and very special rules ensure that the smaller footballers are always at the centre of the action. Games will be held on small pitches for teams of seven players. There, a minimum of five children will play together with a maximum of two adults. A single team can name a squad of up to 15 players, though adults may only play together with their own children.

Fifteen preliminary rounds are planned from May until June, from Hohenwestedt near Kiel in the far north to Heilbronn in the south west. Tournaments will be held in NRW in Dortmund, Kamen, Iserlohn, Lüdinghausen and Fritzlar, among others. The three highest placing teams in each case qualify for the intermediate stage that will be held as two tournaments prior to the summer holidays. The four finalists will then play in the grand tournament finals, which will be held in autumn 2017 around a BVB home match. All participants in the finals will take to the pitch during half-time at the SIGNAL IDUNA PARK where they will be paid tribute to and will get to meet the BVB senior team.
