Borussia Dortmund's second team met Wuppertaler SV in a rearranged Matchday 8 fixture, with the Black and Yellows celebrating a 2-1 home victory. Given that the first team were playing in Bruges at approximately the same time, understandably few BVB fans were in attendance at the Rote Erde. The stadium announcer thanked all 655 spectators who came out to watch the match, with Wuppertal bringing a 400 strong contingent.

The first few minutes were action packed, with Wuppertal creating the first opportunity straight from the whistle: Gaetano Manno took a shot from distance, Eric Oelschlägel in the Dortmund goal did well to save. BVB also came close from distance soon after, with Dieckmann trying his luck.

After this eventful opening stage, Borussia sought to impose more structure on the game, pressing further up the pitch and seeing more of the ball. A free-kick launched from midfield was headed on into the box by Pavlidis, with Joseph Boyamba stretching out impressively to get something on the end of it and give BVB a 1-0 lead after ten minutes. In the 19th minute, Pagano beat his man on the left side of the BVB defence and sent a cross into the box, where Manno was on hand to head in the equalizer.

After half-time the young Borussians were piling the pressure on the opposition, but still struggled to create much in the way of chances. The best one fell to Boyamba, whose effort from distance was superbly saved by goalkeeper Wickl. Hüseyin Bulut then broke clear through on goal on the left side before lifting the ball over the keeper to make it 2-1 Borussia. There would however still be plenty for Oelschlägel to do in what remained of the match: the BVB keeper was forced into a desperate clearance, saw a shot from distance whizz just past his goal and was needed again in injury time, preventing a goal for 2-2 with a save down low with his feet.

What the coaches had to say

Adrian Alipour, Wuppertaler SV coach, said: ''We were under no illusions about the size of the task we had in front of us today. Dortmund are one of the best football playing sides in the league. I think we did a really good job, kept our shape well, worked hard off the ball. Dortmund were dominant, they had a lot of possession, they made us run about a lot, but we always managed to close down the space, to not give them many chances. We weren't incisive enough in defence with the first goal, but we had a response and deserved to go level. We had a plan for how to approach the second half. It looked like it was headed for a draw, but then we went and conceded in the way we did. You just can't allow that to happen, not to take anything away from Dortmund.''

Jan Siewert, BVB Coach: ''I'll definitely take that. It was a great away win in our home ground. I would love to have personally greeted each and every BVB fan as it made me so happy to see them there despite the scheduling clash. It was a shame that we had to play such an important match with the stands being the way they were tonight. Teams need rhythm in order to play football, and all this rescheduling is making things difficult. I was really chuffed for Hüseyin Bulut, he really deserved that goal. I sincerely hope that similar fixture rescheduling doesn't make us have to play an away game at home again.''
