Massih Wassey scored the winning goal in the 41st minute of a match that contained few incidents of note. The Black and Yellows had proceedings under control for the entire duration and recorded a deserved home win. "I'm extremely satisfied, it was a deserved victory," said coach Daniel Farke.

It has now become even tighter at the top of the table: second-placed Viktoria Köln (42 points) were held to a 1-1 draw by Fortuna Düsseldorf's U23s, while league leaders Borussia Mönchengladbach (45) made hard work of their clash with 1. FC Köln II but ultimately ran out 2-1 winners. BVB are sitting in third, on 40 points, but have played two games fewer (18) than their two direct rivals for top spot (20).
