This will be the eighth occasion Borussia Dortmund have faced Bayern Munich in the history of the DFB Cup, with the two sides meeting every season since BVB's 5-2 victory in the 2012 Berlin showpiece.

"If you want to win the Cup, then you have to beat Bayern Munich at some point - it doesn't matter where," said Jürgen Klopp in the build-up to the latest edition of the fixture. Interestingly, Bayern counterpart Pep Guardiola echoed the BVB coach's words, saying: "If you want to win the Cup, then you have to beat the very best teams."

Bayern have squared off against Dortmund 108 times across all competitions, the fixture producing 50 wins for the men from Munich, 28 for BVB and 30 draws. Bayern have won 30 of their 50 home games against BVB. The two rivals have met seven times in the DFB Cup, with Bayern emerging victorious on five occasions and BVB on two - most recently by a 5-2 scoreline in the 2012 final. Back then BVB managed five wins in a row over FC Bayern. However, their most recent Cup final meeting in 2014 ended 2-0 in Bayern's favour after extra-time courtesy of late but decisive strikes from Arjen Robben and Thomas Müller.

BVB will line up against their opponents on Tuesday (kick-off 20:30 CET) in the Allianz Arena, knowing that "every match has been close" in the words of Klopp, who added: "It will be cool in Munich. It's a big event. And I don't feel as if we're going there without a chance..."

A glance at the statistics serves to underline Klopp's belief. The two clubs have an equal record against each other in competitive matches since October 2010, claiming seven wins each and sharing the spoils twice. Matches in Munich in the past four years have seen three BVB wins, a draw and three away defeats. (br)
