It's almost become a tradition: Borussia Dortmund are set to feature in a major final for the fourth consecutive year - and have always faced their final opponents in the league a matter of weeks beforehand. Bayern Munich have been the opponents on the three occasions since 2012, but this time BVB will face VfL Wolfsburg 14 days before their Berlin encounter.

It's a strange occurrence but one that "carries no relevance" for Berlin, according to Jürgen Klopp, who added: "The final will be quite a different game; it's a different competition and there'll be a different atmosphere." There are certainly no secrets to be kept, with Wolfsburg just as familiar to Jürgen Klopp as BVB are to Dieter Hecking. "We can't take the Sepp Herberger approach of 1954," joked Klopp in reference to Germany's 8-3 defeat at the hands of Hungary in the World Cup first round: "First concede eight goals, then win the final 3-2."

And with so much riding on the league game, neither side can afford to make changes with the Cup final in mind. "Both teams still have a lot to play for. Wolfsburg want to end the season in second. And going on Gladbach's recent form, they're going to need to beat us," said the BVB coach. On their part, Klopp's charges still need four points to seal their own seventh-place finish, with three points in Wolfsburg likely to reduce the pressure on Black and Yellow shoulders as they go into their duel with direct rivals Werder Bremen on the last day of the season. "Six points are still up for grabs and we need to try to win all of them," declared Klopp.

That means that every game's now a final, regardless of the competition.

And, incidentally, the "pre-finals" against Bayern Munich yielded some good results too, with BVB claiming two victories (1-0, 3-0) and a draw (1-1) in the run-up to the actual final...
