Business as usual in Bremen and for Borussia before the Final to qualify for Europe. The preparations are the same for both clubs as they are before every other match day.

Werder assistant coach Florian Kohfeldt commented on the club website: “we won’t do anything crazy.” And Jürgen Klopp said: “the preparations are the same as always. But what we do during these preparations varies because it always depends a little on what we have to do to prepare for the opponent.” The Head Coach describes Werder’s way of playing “very special” and refers to the diamond shape in midfield, something that only a few teams still make use of: “this is something we have to confront.”

It is the same thing with the special constellation on this last match day. A draw is enough, but you cannot really play for a draw. But that is something that has been pushed to the background for Jürgen Klopp. “The chance there is with a victory is far too big to even contemplate a draw. A win means we have the chance to overtake Augsburg and to really land that place in the sun.” He added: “just imagine, Gladbach beats Augsburg and we just draw. Then we will kick ourselves. But if Bremen is so strong that we can be happy with one point, then we will take that point!”

The opponent can and will play without any pressure. They are safe from relegation. Everything else would be a bonus. Viktor Skripnik explained: “we are very proud that we have worked hard to have this chance. We have to believe in it and we can’t just dream about it, instead we have to really be prepared.” His boss Thomas Eichin added: “we made it and really worked hard to make this a real Final. Of course now we will do everything to make sure we put a real spanner in the works for BVB.”

And now the Black Yellows have home advantage. They won the last three games against Bremen in the Signal Iduna Park without any problem and without conceding a goal. And under Klopp BVB has won 29 out a possible 30 points against Werder. The Head Coach wants a pure “competitive atmosphere” for the 90 minutes and wants the focus to only be on the game. Just as BVB successfully did against Paderborn, Frankfurt and Berlin. Only then is there time to say good bye to two great Borussia legends after their last home game. Jürgen Klopp laughed and said: “I don’t have any appointments after that…” Boris Rupert
