Although Shinji Kagawa or Kevin Kampl had been expected to start Borussia's 1-0 win over Wolfsberger AC in Klagenfurt, it was Jonas Hofmann who got the nod. After the match, the 23-year-old spoke to Sport1 along with Ilkay Gündogan and Michael Zorc.

Jonas Hofmann: The pitch got worse and worse, and our legs got heavier. That's not meant to be an excuse, but a few things didn't help us out tonight. Our opponents got a few chances, the spectators got going again - things can happen quickly in football. At set-pieces in particular, Wolfsberg were dangerous. But we'd spoken about this before the game. Sometimes they had completely free headers, so we were lucky there. Ultimately we're happy to have won without conceding a goal. It's a good result for the return leg. After having two bad injuries last season, it was really great for me to be able to complete a competitive match once again. I feel good and I'm happy the coach is showing me his trust. But a few things could certainly have been better. We know that we're not on absolutely top form yet. But our goal at this moment is just to get past this round. And then we'll continue to work on everything else. The work we are doing with Thomas Tuchel is very, very positive. When we spoke before the match, it was really clear that there is simply just a good fit between the team and the coach. We'll take some real steps forward under his leadership.

Ilkay Gündogan: Things got a bit too close for my liking in the second half. But that was largely down to us. One defensive aspect that we really need to improve on in the coming days and weeks is our play when defending set-pieces. In two or three instances tonight, we can consider ourselves lucky not to have conceded an equaliser. I feel fit. I had a good pre-season, was able to work well and completed the pre-season preparations successfully. The coaching staff are giving me detailed advice on where I can improve.

Michael Zorc: The end of the match became a nervy affair for us. We gave almost all of our players the freedom to play for the 90 minutes. It's obvious that this may lead to problems at the back. We made a very bright start and controlled the game, but we couldn't get a second goal. We lost our way a little bit and Wolfsberg performed valiantly, creating one or two chances on goal. If you don't score the goals at the right time, then things can get difficult. We are happy to have won the match. The 1-0 win puts us in pole position for the return leg next week. The result means we need to approach the second leg with full concentration. If we are able to create more chances from our possession of the ball and are then able to make better use of these chances, we'll progress through to the next round. (fu)
