Seven games and seven wins – Borussia Dortmund’s starting record in the 2015/16 season speaks for itself. The current enthusiasm of the team has been proven once again in the 7-2 thrashing of Odds BK which has made the qualification for the UEFA Europa League even sweeter.

“We are all in good spirits”, praised Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The Armenian was yet again one of the star players scoring a dream goal from 20 metres out into the right hand corner in the 25th minute following the unfortunate and undeserved 1-0 deficit in the 19th minute. For Mkhitaryan this was his eighth goal in seven games.

He shone against Odds BK, but he wasn’t the only one: Marco Reus scored a hat-trick with goals in the 27th, 31st and 57th minutes; Shinji Kagawa scored a brace in the 40th and 90th minutes and Ilkay Gündogan scored the other goal in the 51st minute in a high tempo BVB game in which the opponents were simply overwhelmed.

“I was completely satisfied throughout”, said Head Coach Thomas Tuchel after the match. Especially up to the 70th minute the team had played very, very well, were dominant and determined and had a good passing rhythm. The proof is in the statistics that show that Dortmund had 34 shots on target – the highest in Dortmund’s home game history.

“Alert, fresh and enjoying it”

“The boys are really alert, fresh and enjoying it at the moment. They never let up even when under more and more pressure”, praised Tuchel who took the two conceded goals in good humour. “The start was good and then we conceded the first obligatory goal against Odds BK. First shot, first goal.” Their second shot came in the 62nd minute and with it came their second goal. Tuchel: “I’m giving it no more thought after the game.”

The more important question is whether BVB can continue this momentum in the Bundesliga in Sunday’s match against Hertha BSC. “We are well prepared for it after this victory”, explained Marco Reus. Ilkay Gündogan added that “everything is going well at the moment; therefore we are scoring lots of goals. I hope that we can continue like this for a long time.” In seven games the team has scored 27 goals.

Marco Reus: “We have found our footing well and we are still developing and playing well.” The 7-2 victory is solid proof of this. Although the Norwegians are ranked 270th in the world we still “scored seven goals” against them, as Julian Weigl explained.
