When speaking to sky following the defeat in Hamburg, the BVB players were highly self-critical: "It's good to get a wake-up call like this," said Marcel Schmelzer, who added: "You won't do well in the Bundesliga if you don't always give 100% each time you play." Head coach Thomas Tuchel was also far from satisfied: "From the very first minute it was clear our body language and our attitude weren't quite right." Here are the reactions to the match.

Discontent: Thomas Tuchel.

Thomas Tuchel: Especially in the first half, the difference between our ambition, our understanding of how to perform as a team, and the reality was dramatic. We were deservedly punished as a result. At this moment I do not have an explanation, but it was clear from the first minute that our body language and attitude weren't quite right. It wasn't at the level we expect of ourselves, the level we know we can produce - and we didn't see that coming either. It was a long way from what you need to get a good result in the Bundesliga. There was no indication it would happen. We actually worked very hard during the international break, and even in our final training session or in our team discussion there was no hint that we would perform like that. The lesson is clear: if you have that body language, perform like that and lack concentration, you won't get anything anywhere.

Marcel Schmelzer: We played very badly in the first 45 minutes and were unable to put into practice what we wanted to do. Overall, we lacked the necessary movement in the opponent's half and we made individual mistakes leading up to the goals we conceded. And then by the time it was 3-0 it became even more difficult. The ball just didn't want to go in for us. I think it's good to get a wake-up call like this. You won't do well in the Bundesliga if you don't always give 100% each time you play. Now we need to question ourselves and calmly analyse what went wrong out there tonight.

Roman Bürki: We did not show the necessary aggression, and we were lacking in concentration somewhat. I think that was our worst performance of the season. Now we need to analyse what we did wrong tonight. Before the penalty I came out to narrow the angle for Ilicevic. Then there is a clear contact; it was definitely unlucky but you see penalties given for that. We mustn't think about it too much now and need to perform better in the next game.

"We didn't give BVB a chance"

Bruno Labbadia: My team competed very well from the very first minute, performed well tactically and didn't give BVB a chance. Matches against Dortmund are not easy, so I'd like to congratulate my team, even if we did end the game in somewhat nervous fashion. Even when you're 3-0 up, you can never be sure of victory against BVB because of the quality they have in their ranks. (djg)
