Erik Durm is back: the left-back made his first appearance in a competitive match in the BVB starting line-up since 30th May 2015. After the 2-0 victory over Ingolstadt he experienced “heavy legs”.

Erik, what would be your assessment of today’s 2-0 victory over FC Ingolstadt?

“We weren’t at our best, allowed Ingolstadt to come into it a bit too much and played too many long balls. We were better in the second half and kept Ingolstadt in their own half. Auba’s goals were a release. We got the three points which is the most important thing.

This was the first time you had started a match since the cup final against Wolfsburg. How did it feel?

“It was tough for me to run out for 90 minutes on such a long pitch. I’m really happy that we won. There’s still a lot I can do to improve. But for now I’m pleased that I got through the 90 minutes and was able to be part of the winning side”.

You almost could have scored in the 82nd minute but instead played the ball…

“In retrospect I could have done it myself. I noticed that my legs were getting heavy. I saw Micky and Auba in the corner of my eye, both of whom were offside to begin with. I carried on and played it more or less blind. In hindsight you have to be smarter. Thank God we won”. (fu)
