Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is following in Gerd Müller’s footsteps. But the BVB striker is unruffled: “The most important thing is that I’m scoring for the team and that we are winning”.

After the match in Mönchengladbach you were self-critical and thought that you could have played better. But you managed to do that against Ingolstadt, didn’t you?

Last week I didn’t score. But that happens in football. It was important for me to stay focussed. I got back on track against Ingolstadt.

Did you see on the pitch that you were nearly offside when you made it 1-0?

No, at the time I didn’t notice that. I just nodded the ball in. In the first half of the season we were on the receiving end of four offside goals, but this time we scored an offside goal ourselves. It all balances out in the end.

You’ve reached the 20 goal milestone. Are you now willing to reveal your wager with Manager Thomas Tuchel?

It’s true that I’ve reached my target. But I haven’t yet fulfilled the wager with my Manager. You’ll have to be patient on that one… (laughs)

You are starting to catch Robert Lewandowski in the top goal-scoring charts…

I’m not interested as to whether he has more or fewer goals than myself. The most important thing is that I’m scoring for the team and we are winning. At the end of the season we can assess the statistics.

At this moment in time during his record season, Gerd Müller had scored two fewer goals than yourself. Are you on the way to breaking his record?

I would say I still need another 20 goals or so, don’t you think?

Yes.

That is a lot. But in football you never know… (laughs)

Although some people aren’t a fan, you did a somersault again. The chances of injury are pretty high, aren’t they?...

When I score, my emotions come out. I’m not really thinking about it. I just do it. But I’m careful. (laughs) (md)
