"We want to get to Berlin," said goalscorer Marco Reus confidently to Sky after securing a semi-final spot against Stuttgart. "We stayed calm and deserved to win," he said of his team's performance. It was an opinion shared by coach Thomas Tuchel, who described it to ARD as a "perfect performance against an opponent in such a situation and on such form".

Thomas Tuchel: "I am almost entirely satisfied. At the start of the second period we squandered too many chances which could have helped us to settle the match earlier on. If you don't do that, then what happened can happen. But we put in a perfect performance against an opponent in such a situation and on such form. We have some challenging weeks ahead of us, with four tricky games in a row. That means we now need to recover well in order to be able to give everything against Hannover on Saturday."

Ilkay Gündogan: "We knew beforehand that it would be tough. At the moment VfB have a lot of self-confidence, but having said that we dealt with the game very well. The conditions out there did not make it easy, but we deserved to progress to the next round. Even though we should have killed the game off sooner after the break, it was ultimately a deserved win."

Marco Reus: "The pitch was in a poor condition, which did not make it easy for the two teams. But on the whole we got into the game well and luckily we broke the deadlock early on. Then we conceded a stupid goal, but we stayed calm and ultimately deserved to win the match. Now we just need to wait and see who our opponents for the semi-final will be. Then we want to get to Berlin."

Michael Zorc: "Stuttgart played on the counter from the start, but we managed to stop that pretty well. We were very confident on the ball and shifted the play time and time again. Ultimately it is definitely a deserved victory because we had a range of chances. The only shortcoming was that we were not able to kill off the game earlier in the second half."

"It shows how good BVB are"

Jürgen Kramny: "We put up an incredible fight in the second half, but we were just not able to get the equaliser. At the end we opened up at the back and conceded the third late on. We got pretty close, but it shows how good BVB are that they were still able to launch such a counter-attack right before the end. It is not nice to lose to BVB, but it is not abnormal either."

Kevin Großkreutz: "The defeat is a bitter pill to swallow because we did not play badly at all. Especially after the break we upped the ante but then of course opened up at the back at the end. Then it's obvious that a counter like that can happen. Dortmund are strong, but actually it was our mistakes that led to the goals we conceded. Each one was punished mercilessly by BVB. Nevertheless, it was nice to see all my former colleagues again." (djg)
