Two heavyweights of European football will square off in the last 32 of this season's UEFA Europa League when Borussia Dortmund welcome Portuguese outfit FC Porto to Signal Iduna Park on Thursday evening.

  • Borussia Dortmund currently occupy tenth place in the UEFA club ranking list, while FC Porto are in 13th.
  • The two clubs are facing each other for the first time in European competition.
  • Both teams failed to find the back of the net in their last two group games: BVB ended their UEFA Europa League group stage in second place following 1-0 defeats away to Russian side FC Krasnodar and Greeks PAOK Saloniki, while FC Porto finished third in their Champions League group having lost the last two matches 2-0 at home to Ukrainians Dynamo Kiev and away to English side Chelsea.
  • Borussia Dortmund have won each of their three home games against Portuguese opposition, scoring ten goals in the process. However, the Black and Yellows have lost on all three of their away trips to Portugal.
  • FC Porto made a statement of intent by beating FC Bayern Munich 3-1 in the first leg of last season's UEFA Champions League quarter-finals, but they then went on to lose the return leg in Munich 6-1.
  • Overall, they have won three, drawn four and lost seven on German soil.
  • Borussia are one of the three teams to have made it from the third qualifying round to the last 32 of the UEFA Europa League. Only Spaniards Athletic Bilbao and French side AS Saint-Etienne have matched this feat. (br)
