Borussia Dortmund has been guaranteed second place in the current season for four weeks now and this means it is the third time they have come in second since 2013. Now they have the chance to win another second place: second place in the Bundesliga eternal table.

Readers of kicker-Sportmagazins might complain now. BVB is only in fourth place in the eternal table of the Bundesliga, 70 ponts behind second placed Werder Bremen. But the DFL has a different angle on this. Whilst kicker have been calculating their table on a three points per win basis for the past two years, the DFL calculates the German football league on the actual amount of points won and that was two points for a win up to twenty years ago and one point for a draw.

In the official eternal league table Borussia Dortmund is in third place with 2226 points behind Werder Bremen (2228). If BVB beats Wolfsburg and Werder does not get more than a draw against Stuttgart on Monday, Borussia would move up into second place - and they would achieve this even though they have played 102 games less in the top flight than Bremen has. (br)
