Julian Weigl, Marcel Schmelzer and Marco Reus gave their thoughts on the match after the resounding victory over VfL Wolfsburg. “We had a good match plan,” said Reus, adding “the two early goals played in our hands”. Julian Weigl: “We used the space that they allowed us very intelligently and always managed to get into dangerous areas through long balls. That was the key today. We stayed calm and therefore the victory was fully deserved. Certainly it’s complaining of the highest order if we say that we could have put in even more. But even in such a game, room for improvement is still there. The 5-1 at the end of the day is a decent result.

Marcel Schmelzer: “I’d like to pay a huge compliment to the whole team for producing such a performance today against Wolfsburg. We started the match really well with the two quick goals. After that we actually could have dominated the match more. The third goal could have come about a bit quicker, as a 2-0 lead is always dangerous. The fans chanting my name after my long time out was a nice feeling.”

Marco Reus: “We started very well and the two early goals played into our hands nicely. We hardly let Wolfsburg come into it and had a good match plan. We quickly put into place the foundations for the home victory. We actually all wanted to dance after we went 5-0 up. Unfortunately it didn’t work out but “Auba” and “Micki” had planned it all out yesterday and it looked really good”.

"Dortmund are just a class above us"

Andre Schürrle: "We were completely asleep the first 15 minutes, but we came into the game after that, but in the second half we didn’t have any more chances. This season Dortmund are just a class above us which we just have to admit”.

Dieter Hecking: "Congratulations to Thomas Tuchel and BVB for clearly and deservedly winning the match. We were not able to cope with the two early goals and at the moment are not able to offer much opposition. You have to be quite critical about that. If Daniel Caligiuri hadn’t have hit the bar and had made it 2-1 instead, then we would have had more self-confidence. But at the moment it’s just not happening for us. But in spite of that we should not let it get us down.”
