Thomas Tuchel was especially disappointed after losing 3-4 on penalties against the Bavarians. "We were missing that something with regard to speed of decision making, awareness, conviction and presence on the field", said the BVB Manager.

Thomas Tuchel speaking at the press conference: "Ultimately, we can say that we defended devotedly, virulently and extremely passionately. Tactically speaking, though, we did not defend precisely enough in order to achieve a higher level of possession or to make it difficult for Munich to get into our half. We started the game too conservatively and defended. For a long time in the first half we were missing the required courage, conviction and sharpness. Our counterattacks were lazy and we gave up on too many opportunities. We were damaging ourselves. At some point in the match it became clear that we were going to have much less of the ball for the duration. We were not at the level we had been on in the second Bundesliga round against Munich, during which we had almost as much of the ball as they did, and were able to do them damage in that way. It did not happen for us this time. We were missing that something with regard to speed of decision making, awareness, conviction and presence on the field. We compensated for that with passion, hard-work and being prepared to run. We had chances, big chances, to get the decisive goal."

Thomas Tuchel speaking to sky: "We still have a lot to learn. Playing in this final revealed much about ourselves. It was also telling to see with what sharpness the Bavarians played from the beginning on, even if the quality of the game was not the same as that in the second round against them in the Bundesliga. Many lessons could be drawn from this game. We need more self-confidence and conviction when in possession. We were indeed very hard working and defended passionately. But you also need the opportunity to recover by commanding possession of the ball, and we did not have enough of that. I am sorry for letting Bender and Sokratis take the second and third penalties. The defeat does not take anything away from our 78 points in the Bundesliga. Nonetheless, everything can have an impact. We expected to win this game, and we did not manage to do that. After the defeat to Liverpool, this is a further disappointment." (fu)
