Good record (still): Even if BVB has lost the last three finals, only four of their last 28 Cup ties have ended in defeat with 68 goals scored and only 16 conceded.

Consistent in the Cup: Borussia have finished with a clean sheet in 17 of the last 28 Cup games. Despite the shot record 8:17 against Bayern, BVB didn’t have the worst chances in the game…

First against Second: For only the fourth time in the Cup’s history have the German Champions and Runners-up faced each other in the final. Each time the league winners have come out on top.

Penalty Shootouts: The Cup Final has ended in a penalty shootout five times now after 1984, 1991, 1992 and 1999. Sokratis, Bender and Kimmich were in the line-ups to take a penalty for the first time ever in any competition.

Saves: Roman Bürki saved all three shots on target well and in the penalty shootout he parried Kimmich’s attempt. Prior to the game, the Swiss had conceded all seven penalties against him (six in the league, one in the Cup for Freiburg).

Goalless Final: For only the second time the Cup Final ended 0-0 after 120 minutes. In 1992 Hannover won as the league runners-up against Gladbach 4-3 in the penalty shootout. (br/jm)
