After BVB's 2-1 win against 1. FSV Mainz 05, André Schürrle was just simply knackered. „I would just like to lie down in the ice bath now", he told sky after the match. The 25 year old had every reason for this: Schürrle was one of the match winners against Mainz.

After he set up Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with a header and created a huge chance in the 16.minute, he then crossed a beautiful ball 36 seconds later to the player from Gabon for the latter to head the ball home to make it 1-0 (17.).

„Schü“ also got involved again after Onisiwo's foul on him in the penalty area. Aubameyang made no mistake and converted the penalty securely to make it 2-0 (89.). André Schürrle set up two goals in his first Bundesliga game for BVB - in Wolfsburg he needed the whole season to set up just five goals in season 2015/16.

The player who comes from Ludwigshafen said: "of course, it went really well for me, I set up one goal, I got the penalty, and I got a few good shots in. I felt good. Looking at the quality that we have up front this could really work out well."

If you also add his 55 minute appearance in the DFB Cup in Trier (3:0) to  the equation, then Schürrle was even involved in all of Dortmund's competitive match goals. When they played on the Mosel, the 25 year old provided the second assist for the 1-0 (8.), he purposely let Castro's pass slip through to Kagawa (2-0, 33.) and he scored the 3-0 himself (45.).

You can tell after just a few weeks that the World Champion is really blossoming under Thomas Tuchel, his mentor from their time together at Mainz. In addition it is plain to see how well the winger is doing in Dortmund when you compare his success rate in one-on-ones to when he was at Wolfsburg. Schürrle has won 67 per cent of one-on-one situations and he was also involved in 14 from 17 shots on goal by Borussia.

BVB captain Marcel Schmelzer said: "all our new signings who were on the pitch have performed well just at the right time." And Thomas Tuchel praised him after winning the first league game of the season: "it was a good start for  ‚Schü‘.“ But he also added that there is "still a lot of room for improvement". Tuchel: "he arrived late in the day, but he was in good condition when he came to us. If you see how happy he was when 'Auba' scored from the spot, then you can see how much he likes playing for BVB and how much he wanted this to happen."

However André Schürrle will (have to) take a step back in the next few days. He suffered a knock on his knee against Mainz, that is why he had to have a bandage around his knee. In addition „Schü“ complained about slight back problems. This is why he told the German FA he would not be available for the matches against Finland and Norway. (fu)
