André Schürrle was the star of the show as he struck in the 87th minute against Real Madrid to make it 2-2. The 25 year old expressed his satisfaction with the draw in an interview with sky after the match.

André Schürrle: “We began the match very well, had a good amount of possession and had faith in ourselves to play from the back. We were able to find space but made the wrong decisions in the final third perhaps too frequently. Real have a lot of quality and played well. It’s a good feeling to have come back from behind twice and particularly as our opponents played a good match. We are definitely able to pit ourselves against big teams in every aspect. For the goal I was hoping that the ball from Christian would somehow make its way through to me. He played it really well into the middle and then I was able to strike the ball well. It’s always good not to lose at home. We managed to get a point against our toughest opponent in the group, so we can be satisfied. In attack Real are always dangerous. The draw is more than deserved. To score in front of the south stand was an amazing feeling and was a lot of fun."

Thomas Tuchel: “We played a very good first-half with a lot of possession and chances. There were lots of good opportunities around the 18-yard box that we weren’t able to convert into better goal-scoring chances. After five minutes in the second half we lost our grip on the match. For a long time it felt as if we weren’t going to be able to turn it around, so we are happy that we showed good character and believed in ourselves to get the draw. After the two good chances we suddenly lost some of our mettle and couldn’t find good positions any more, too easily lost the ball and were thrown off our rhythm. At this stage in the game we were gifting away the ball too easily as well. Madrid began to feel more secure, then came the goal and then we had to pull ourselves together again. We aren’t 100% happy with the 2-2 but we are able to see its value. It feels good not to have lost after having come back from behind twice. But we feel that we can do better."

Roman Bürki: "We had some good opportunities with many shots on goal that were blocked. We were focussed, able to play it out from the back and found space further up the pitch. We showed our character in coming back from behind twice, with the crowd fully behind us. On the whole we can be pleased with the result. It was a great experience to play against such top-class players."

Julian Weigl: "Overall it's a mixed bag; we can be happy with the point after having equalised twice. That said, we were well in the game from long periods, had a lot of possession and were always dangerous further up the field. Real Madrid were clinical with their opportunities and scored goals from fewer chances. We played bravely and showed our young group can keep pace with the best."

Zinedine Zidane (Real Madrid Manager): "After being in the lead, it doesn't feel great to concede the equalising goal three minutes before the end. Dortmund put us under a lot of pressure at the start of the match."

Michael Zorc: "When you look back on the match, the result is fair. We were the best team in the first half." (fu)
