As an extracurricular educational facility in Signal Iduna Park, the BVB Learning Centre is mostly used by various school classes/youth groups from Dortmund and the surrounding area. But in the week before the derby, blue and white colours could be seen alongside the usual black and yellow as a special one-off event took place.

Under the motto "Rivalry yes – violence no", a class from the Theodor-Heuss-Realschule in Dortmund received training on how to deploy moral courage as a means of intervention in violent situations connected to the match. As a cooperative event with the learning centre "Schalke macht Schule", pupils from the Berger Feld comprehensive school in Gelsenkirchen were simultaneously trained in matters relating to moral courage. The pupils were given specific tips, which were both practical and suitable for everyday use, on how to act in emergencies. The objective was to raise awareness of violence in both fan camps without simultaneously having to completely forego the derby day rivalry between the two clubs.

In addition, the young fans were able to take a look behind the scenes as part of a stadium tour through Signal Iduna Park and look around the players' changing rooms or have their photograph taken on the substitutes' bench. The day was then rounded off with a joint graffiti workshop and a kickaround involving both school classes, divided into mixed teams, in the Rote Erde Stadium.
