Thomas Tuchel was relieved at the press conference that followed BVB's 3-0 penalty shootout victory over Union Berlin, but he expressed criticism too. Here's the BVB boss' take on...

…the penalty shootout thriller against Union: "It was a long match, a hard fight. We probably won in the end thanks to our stubbornness, our desire, our dogged belief that we would win no matter what and our spectators. Nobody can claim that the team didn't give everything tonight. It was a complicated match because we missed out on the chance to get the second goal, to score earlier. Now we are delighted with the result, but we also need to be critical with our analysis so that we're ready for the Ruhr Derby on Saturday."

…the support from the fans: "I'd like to pay the spectators a real compliment. By the time of the penalty shootout at the latest, they played an absolutely decisive role."

…on the impact of extra-time ahead of the derby against Schalke: "Right now I have the feeling the the result and the emotion that developed in the stadium helped us. It may indeed be a decisive 30 minutes and a penalty shootout. But right now I view it positively, it helped us more than it harmed us. It is clear that we will need to give absolutely everything we physically have to give in order to get the result that we want on Saturday evening. It was a good lesson, a good experience to see that it is always worth fighting, giving everything for each other and not stopping, no matter how many things go wrong."

…the last 16 tie against Hertha BSC: "It's a real tough one but it's great to be playing at home."

…the personnel situation: "I am confident that Aubameyang will be back for the derby, although I have to admit that I am more hopeful than certain. I am expecting to have Guerreiro and Schürrle back in team training for the first time on Thursday. We need to wait and see how they feel, how they get on with training and what their confidence levels are like. That will be a last-minute decision."
