"Real missed the chance to finish the game off," analysed Sebastian Rode after the 2-2 draw in Madrid. He was joined in front of the microphone by Lukasz Piszczek, Marco Reus and Roman Weidenfeller as the BVB players gave their reactions to finishing top.

Sebastian Rode: "Real missed the chance to finish the game off. We're always capable of scoring goals with those guys up front. It's great that we managed to finish the group in top spot, but in the last 16 there's no such thing as an easy opponent. Now I'd be happy to face any opponent except for perhaps Manchester City or Paris St. Germain."

Lukasz Piszczek: "We showed that the Real Madrid players are only human. They're very good but vulnerable in defence at times too, which is how we managed to draw 2-2 today. On top of that we're not exactly bad in attack either. Ultimately the effort we put in, particularly in the second half, was worth it. Thankfully we're always capable of scoring goals. For us it's a super feeling to have finished the group stages in top spot ahead of Real Madrid. But now it's time for the knockout stages and that's all in the past now. For the round of 16 I would like to face Porto or Benfica."

Sokratis: "This is a very good moment for us. The first period wasn't so good but we performed very well as a team in the second half. When Marco plays, we have even more quality at our disposal. Now we need greater continuity so that we can perform for the full 90 minutes rather than just 60..."

Roman Weidenfeller: "I felt incredibly comfortable, both in this stadium and as part of this team. From the very first minute we tried to defend really well. From time to time we had a few difficulties with our passing or covering play, but we continued to believe in ourselves. We all felt a real burning desire to finish first. It's also a good thing for everyone that we showed we can compete away to Real Madrid. In the last 16 we'll take the opponent we're given. We're ready. But I must confess that I still have a major wish: I'd like to play in FC Barcelona's Nou Camp stadium at some point. That can't happen before the quarter-final stage anyway. Let's see whether it works out."

Marco Reus: "I was slightly under the weather, which is why I didn't play from the beginning. We made quite a bright start but then we lost our way a bit. It all looked a bit disjointed. We still had good chances to score on the counter but we weren't able to see these moves through. In the second half Madrid had some big chances and Roman Weidenfeller made some world-class saves. We had hoped that we would still be able to hit them late on – and that's what happened."

Julian Weigl: "For the spectators it was a very entertaining match. In the opening half we made too many mistakes. Perhaps we needed to adapt to the atmosphere at the outset as many of us were making our first appearance in the Bernabéu. Nevertheless we were still able to make an impact going forward. In the second half we had a lot of possession and didn't let ourselves be affected by going 2-0 down. We knew that we would have chances, and so we did. Scoring the equaliser right at the end is brilliant."
