Marcel Schmelzer set up Aubameyang to score in the 60th minute of BVB's 2-2 draw away to Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. After the match the left-back gave a wide-ranging interview in which he spoke about Emre Mor and his preferred opponents for the next round.

Marcel, a 2-2 draw in Madrid and you've won the group. Was that the perfect evening?
Marcel Schmelzer: "No, I don't think anyone would describe it as perfect. The second half was slightly better but we looked tense in the first half. However, we can be satisfied with the overall performance."

At 2-0 down you must have had at least some doubts about whether you would get anything from the game?
Schmelzer: "When you're two goals behind in Madrid, then you normally don't manage to get a draw. It speaks volumes about us as a team that we still managed it. I hope that picking up a point here will serve us well for the season. At least the match showed how useful it is to work well defensively as a team."

Was the double substitution after you went 2-1 down a decisive moment?
Schmelzer: "It is a huge advantage for us to have such strength in depth. We have enormous quality. Now all of our players are gradually returning to fitness, so I am confident that we can now carry this momentum into our league campaign too."

Marco Reus scored the equaliser but a decisive role in the goal was played by Emre Mor, who won the ball back and then played it into the path of "Auba"…
Schmelzer: "Yeah you're completely right, Emre was crucial in our equaliser. It was super play from him. It's extremely important to see that there's more to him than just scoring goals or setting them up. The fact that he has absolutely outstanding attacking qualities goes without saying. But today he also worked well in defence and rewarded himself and us by winning the ball back before the equaliser."

Why did you have to make a tactical reshuffle in the first half that led to you playing deeper?
Schmelzer: "Unfortunately we couldn't find the spaces in the way that we had hoped to. We wanted to tie down Lucas Vázquez but he simply stayed forward in attack. So the spaces were there, but it naturally made our defensive switch-play more difficult. We wanted to play it safe in that respect."

Last question: who do you want to face in the last 16?
Schmelzer: "I could live with another trip to Portugal..."
