Thomas Tuchel on the match in Bremen:
"The first 15 minutes were very good and we deservedly took the lead. We could have even scored a second. Then we lost control for no discernible reason. Our grip on the game weakened, we were less dangerous. On top of that we made too many mistakes. Then it became an open game, despite the red card and us having superiority in numbers. The objective was to win the match – no matter how. After they equalised we reacted well and still had a number of chances. For the last five minutes the game was very open again. Obviously it feels fantastic to start with a victory."

...on Mario Götze:
"We made the decision to play with two out-and-out wing forwards today. Mario played in that position in Paderborn but it isn't his natural position. We therefore decided to go with Christian Pulisic, because he is a specialist wing player who has a lot of pace."

...on the chaotic nature of the match:
"Such things can happen, even to an experienced team. After a break like that you never know exactly where you stand. On top of that there was an emotional crowd and a tough opponent – ultimately it was down to a mixture of those things. Perhaps we could do with getting that kind of result, winning narrowly, from time to time. In the first half of the season we often conceded another goal in that kind of situation."
