Matthias Ginter, André Schürrle and Thomas Tuchel pulled no punches following the defeat in Berlin. "We had two good opportunities to take the lead and then gifted them a goal," lamented the coach. Here we bring you the first reactions.

Thomas Tuchel: "The result is annoying but the performance was okay. Our lack of efficiency cost us the three points today. We had two good opportunities to take the lead but then gifted them that goal. Matthias Ginter obviously made the mistake leading up to the first goal and it says a lot about him that he readily admits that, but it's only half the truth. It's not his fault that we lost the match. We could have, perhaps even should have, scored before that and taken a 1-0 lead ourselves. That would have completely changed the game. The second goal obviously goes in the corner on the goalkeeper's side but he hit the ball very well and accurately, from very close range, so I in no way blame Roman Bürki for that. I wouldn't have saved it either if I had been between the sticks."

André Schürrle: "Small details decided the match today. The first was right at the start when I was through on goal and should've scored. If I had done, the match would have been different and it would have been much easier for us. Then we concede a stupid goal, but that can happen. I'm not blaming anyone there. In the second half we were doing well and had a lot of opportunities to go maybe 2-1 or even 3-1 ahead. Then it would have been completely over. But unfortunately we didn't take our chances, one thing led to another and we were beaten by a top free-kick. It's very annoying."

Matthias Ginter: "I completely underestimated the situation before their first goal and touched the ball too far ahead of me. That shouldn't have happened. Before Hertha's second goal I had to make the foul or they would have been through. It was clearly a professional foul and I was lucky I had team-mates around me, otherwise it would have probably been red. But as I said, if I hadn't committed the foul he would have been through."

"We played to win"

Pal Dardai: "I think that my team deserved to win today. The lads worked very systematically and very well. We played to win and blocked out all negative thoughts. We managed that very well and could perhaps even have scored one goal more in the closing stages. It's a fantastic feeling." (djg)
