The battle of the Borussias was an open affair in which the men from Dortmund came out on top. They registered 12 shots to the seven of Gladbach, who tried to use BVB's congested fixture schedule to their advantage and covered almost four kilometres more.

All-important opener: BVB have only lost one of the 17 matches in Mönchengladbach in which they have scored first (in April 1991 under Horst Köppel). Since then Borussia Dortmund have never lost in Mönchengladbach after being a goal up.

The art of the comeback: BVB have beaten Mönchengladbach more times than any other team after conceding first (now ten).

Goals guaranteed: There has been at least one goal in each of the last 40 meetings between the teams, with the last goalless draw coming at the Bökelberg on 17 April 1994.

Back in Europe: The victory in Mönchengladbach means Borussia Dortmund will definitely be involved in European competition next season and will play in the 2017/18 Europa League at the very least.

Head-to-head record: The Black and Yellows have won their last four matches against Gladbach and historically have the better head-to-head after 90 meetings, with 33 victories to 29 defeats.

Penalty: Marco Reus stepped up to take a spot-kick for the first time since missing against Loris Karius in Mainz back in October 2015. He has now scored eight of his nine penalties in the Bundesliga.

Outstanding return: Reus has now scored in every match since his return from injury, netting against Frankfurt, Monaco and Mönchengladbach. BVB have not lost a single one of their last 17 league matches in which Reus has been on the scoresheet (13 wins, four draws).

Away goal tally: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang's goal was his 14th this season away from home. The last Bundesliga player to reach that mark after 30 matches was Edin Dzeko seven years ago. The goal, which he scored with his second touch, was his first from the bench this season.

Dream team: Ousmane Dembélé has now set up 19 goals for BVB in all competitions this term. Nine of those have been for Aubameyang in the league.

Top goalscorer: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang now sits atop the Bundesliga goalscoring charts with 27. The last Dortmund player to have amassed such a tally was Lothar Emmerich, who had 29 goals from the first 30 matches in 1965/66.

On your head: Raphael Guerreiro scored his first headed goal in the Bundesliga. His previous five have all been with his left foot.

Unassailable lead: The Black and Yellows have taken a 1-0 lead on 17 occasions this season. There have been 15 wins and two draws.

Rotation: Thomas Tuchel made more changes to the starting XI that faced Monaco for the Mönchengladbach game than he has for any other match in 2017 (five). (jm/br)
