On Saturday, the whistle will be blown for the first of 17 home matches as part of the 2017/18 Bundesliga season in the Signal Iduna Park. Some things are new, much remains the same. 09 facts for the new season.

Club Heroes: The grey walls of the Signal Iduna Park have been given a colourful make-over at four locations in the form of murals celebrating legendary BVB players. They can be seen in the stairways leading from floor 2 to floor 1. Wolfgang Paul is in the north-west, while Adi Preißler has been immortalised in the north-east. Sebastian Kehl is to the south – and Dede can be seen outside on the corner in the south-east.

Substitute Boards: As is already done internationally, from now on, two substitute boards will be made use of, one for the home team, the other for the away team. These will no longer be operated by the fourth official, but by a representative from each team.

Concrete Restoration: After around 40 years of intensive football experiences, the stands in the lower tier, which were opened in 1974, require a course of treatment. The work began in summer 2012. Following the south, north and east, the western lower tier will now have its concrete restored. Old layers of concrete will be removed and re-profiled.

Beer & Bratwurst: The prices for half a litre of beer and a bratwurst will rise by 20 cents. The prices were not adjusted across the last six or seven years despite purchase prices rising on a number of occasions. Half a litre of beer, the price of which was last raised in the 2010/11 season, now costs €3.90. A bratwurst now sells for €2.80 over the counter. Consequently, BVB still provides beer at the lowest price in the Bundesliga, and sells the second cheapest bratwurst.

Entry Checks: In order to ensure smooth access to the stadium, we ask that all visitors arrive as early as possible, and we ask for your patience and understanding if, during intensified entry checks, you have to wait before entering.

Rucksacks: Bulky items, including suitcases and rucksacks are, as before, not permitted in the stadium. Rucksacks and other such items can be left at various deposit points (the "Helmbude", the home deposit point on Turnweg, the away deposit points on Strobelalle and on Turnweg.

Drinking Fountain: A drinking fountain will be trialled in the North Stand area by the stairs leading to blocks 62 and 63.

Kit Sleeves: From the beginning of this season, clubs may use the maximum permitted 70 square centimetres of advertising space on kit sleeves for their own marketing purposes. Therefore, the "Opel-Blitz" will replace the logo of the league's partner up until now, "Hermes", and with that, the blue element from the kit -;)

Train: There are around 10,000 pay for car parking spaces available around the Signal Iduna Park, but travelling to the stadium using public transport is still recommended. The main city rail service to the Signal Iduna Park is the U45. From around three hours prior to kick-off until 90 minutes after a match has finished, the service runs approximately every five minutes between the "Hauptbahnhof" and "Stadion" stations. The stadium is likewise easy to reach using the U42 line (Grevel–Hombruch), alighting at the "Theodor Fliedner Heim" station, as well as the U46 (Brunnenstraße/Brügmannplatz–Westfalenhallen). With this train (DB, Eurobahn) travel until the "Signal Iduna Park" station, which is situated just a few minutes by foot away from the ground. (br)
