A slightly tetchy encounter with little in the way of goal mouth action was ultimately decided by the substitutes. In the end, BVB's efficiency saw them through: eight shots at goal were enough for three goals.

First shot, first goal: Making his BVB debut, the Spaniard Paco Alcacer scored with his very first shot, a feat also accomplished by Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marcio Amoroso. After Marc Bartra, Mikel Merino and Sergio Gomez, Alcacer is the third Spanish player to don the black and yellow of BVB.

Ball magnet, goalscorer: Abdou Diallo was far and away the player who saw the most of the ball. The defender touched the ball 126 times and also scored his first goal in a BVB shirt. He also scored on Matchday 3 last season while playing for Mainz against Leverkusen. It was his third Bundesliga goal in total and the first he's scored with his feet.

History repeats itself: In 2017/18 Marius Wolf got his first Bundesliga goal while playing for Eintracht against Borussia Dortmund. This time the tables were turned as he got his first goal for BVB while playing against his old team from Hessen.

We speak Danish: In Thomas Delaney and Jacob Bruun Larsen, two Danes lined up on the same team for the first time in Bundesliga history. On his sixth match in the Bundesliga, Bruun Larsen's corner which lead to Diallo's goal meant that the Dane registered his first involvement in a goal.

Friday night lights: BVB are undefeated on their last 25 home matches on a Friday night, with 18 wins and 7 draws. The last defeat dates all the way back to January 2004.

Frankfurt - a favourite opponent : Against no other Bundesliga club have Borussia Dortmund won as many home matches as they have done against Frankfurt (33). The 3-1 success was the eighth win in succession. The last time Eintracht left Dortmund with points on the board was eight and a half years ago, when a team managed by Michael Skibbe won 3-2.

Super sub: Jadon Sancho has three assists from three substitute appearances so far this season. Against Frankfurt he set up the second and third goals.

Important set pieces: Three of Borussia's five goals so far this season have come from dead ball situations. In the second round of fixtures last season BVB only found the back of the net once from a set piece. (br)
