Mats Hummels is set to become the second player in Borussia Dortmund's history to reach 500 competitive appearances. Some believe that he will reach this landmark in the home game against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday, while others think it will only be the case in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final first leg away to Atlético Madrid next Wednesday.

The reason for the discrepancy is the 2008 Super Cup, which was not an official match organised by the DFB or DFL – but rather a prestigious yet private event between Borussia Dortmund and FC Bayern Munich (2-1) in which Hummels played for BVB. For this reason, the 35-year-old currently has 498 competitive appearances for the Black & Yellows to his name.
