Mats Hummels made his 500th competitive appearance for Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League away game against Atlético Madrid. He is only the second player to reach this landmark for the Black & Yellows.

The first was a DFB-Pokal tie. On 29 January 2008, Hummels made his debut in the Black & Yellow colours against Werder Bremen (1-0). He reached the 500-mark away to Atlético Madrid on 10 April 2024. With 572 appearances for Borussia Dortmund, only Michael Zorc sits ahead of the centre-back in the ranking list.

The 35-year-old has played for BVB from January 2008 to June 2016 and since July 2019, winning the German Bundesliga in 2011 and 2012 as well as the DFB-Pokal in 2012 and 2021. He has reached the final on six occasions – more often than any other Borussia player. He has scored 37 goals for the Black & Yellows. Overall, he has scored at least one goal in each of his last 16 Bundesliga campaigns – also a record in the division.

Since making his return in summer 2019, the defender has been on the pitch for 138 of a possible 164 Bundesliga matches. This term, he has made 31 appearances across all competitions – including the full 90 minutes in all nine UEFA Champions League games. (cr)
