The crowd scenes after the game against Wolfsburg were reminiscent to the ones a week ago at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK. Just like against Real Madrid, there were standing ovations from the BVB faithful. Even 10 minutes after the game, most of the fans were still in their seats.

The DFB Cup trophy is up for grabs in Berlin on 17 May.

On the pitch it was, of course, a different story. A week ago the players, despite putting in a fantastic performance, had their heads down after missing out on a Champions League semi-final spot, on Tuesday night they were jumping up and down for joy, soaking each other with their water bottles. Borussia Dortmund are in the DFB Cup final in Berlin!

“At the moment it is hard to comprehend and we will need a few days before we realise what we have achieved again this season,” said a happy Sebastian Kehl after the game, expressing what few Borussen – due to a long injury list – would have believed to be possible: to cap a season of ups and downs with a title.

“I’m very happy and unbelievably proud of my lads that they were rewarded, after a tough four weeks with nine games, with a trip to the final,” said an equally happy Jürgen Klopp. The season’s goal of winning a trophy is within reach, with a whole region looking forward to May 17th and Berlin’s Olympic stadium. “We now have a big highlight at the end of the season,” said Mats Hummels. “I’m sure it’s going to be a hell of a game.”

For one player in a BVB shirt, the cup final is definitely going to be a much more emotional affair than it already is. Robert Lewandowski – that much is for sure – will play his last game for the Schwarzgelben in Berlin. Two years ago, the striker scored a hat-trick in the cup final to help BVB win the Double. “I’m really looking forward to this match,” said Lewandowski on Wednesday. “And I hope it will be an equally great experience.” A lot of BVB players already know that feeling of lifting a DFB Cup trophy. “It’s an incredible feeling, one I really want to experience again,” said Lewandowski. Sebastian Kehl added, “If we take the power and energy from that 2012 final and have a bit of luck, we might be able to lift the trophy again.”
