Borussia Dortmund’s Under 23s began their third division season in fine style. Dave Wagner’s team won 2-1 (1-0) at RW Erfurt. Goals from Jordanov and Harder either side of half-time were enough to claim all three points.

Borussia began the game on the back foot as the home side dominated the opening exchanges.EX-BVB man Tyrala was a central figure and it was from his corner that Laurito turned onto a post on 8 minutes. BVB did create one chance when Jordanov let loose a fine strike on 13 minutes and that effort acted as something of a wake-up call for the team as BVB began to get forward more and more testing Klewin in the RWE goal. The game settled down into a slower rhythm for the rest of the half before first Tyrala went close on 34 minutes and then with two minutes remaining BVB scored! The couple of hundred travelling fans looked on as Harder fed Jordanov who steered the ball beyond Klewin in the home goal. It was somewhat against the run of play.

After the break Kefkir fed Harder who made it 2-0 for the Black n Yellows. Now Erfurt woke up but Dortmund managed to keep things under control at the back, at least until the 73rd minute. Then a long clearance from Klewin was missed by the BVB defence and Eichmeier pounced to push the ball beyond Alomerovic to make it 2-1. The stadium now rocked as the home fans hoped that their boys could go on to get something from the game after all.

With Erfurt bombing forward the opportunities to counter attack opened up with a chance for Kefkir on 79 minutes probably the most noteworthy of them. Erfurt went close on 81 minutes when Bukva nodded wide. However BVB were able to shepherd the match to a safe three point conclusion which cost them a yellow card for Alomerovic when he was deemed to be time-wasting.

Next Saturday, the Under23s play at home to Holstein Kiel.
