“It’s likely that we are going to make one or two changes,” said Jürgen Klopp in the build-up to Saturday’s DFB Cup match at Stuttgarter Kickers (kick-off: 1530 CET). This could mean that of the six players rested against Bayern Munich in the Supercup on Wednesday one or two will be recalled back to the squad.

Weidenfeller, Hummels, Sahin, Gündogan, Blaszczykowski and Reus are the six players who missed the match on Wednesday. “Roman could be an option but we are not going to take it,” BVB coach Jürgen Klopp announced on Friday. “Mitch Langerak is a goalkeeper we have real faith in, and we also want to give Roman Weidenfeller a chance to have a normal preseason.”

Marco Reus, however, could make a return to the squad for Saturday’s trip to Stuttgart, 11 weeks after suffering an ankle injury in Germany’s friendly against Armenia. “Marco is an option on the bench,” said Klopp, but also added, “But it could also make sense to leave him in Dortmund to continue training. As long as we don’t need to we are not going to push things early.”

Given that opening match in the Bundesliga against Bayer Leverkusen is only a week away, the Dortmund coach is unlikely to make any major changes to his side. “Let’s see what we do,” he said on Friday. “After the Leverkusen match we have a friendly in Mannheim, and that one seems to come just at the right time for many of the players…”
