“It was exciting, unnecessarily exciting in the end,” said Jürgen Klopp after BVB’s narrow (if only on paper) victory over Augsburg that has given the Dortmund coach new insights and information. Jürgen Klopp on…

… the course of the game:

“It was exciting, a bit too exciting in the end. Up to then we played very well and showed a great response to the Leverkusen match.  We allowed Augsburg in the spaces we wanted them to play in, defended very well for long stages and scored the goals at the right time. Unfortunately, we stopped scoring goals, otherwise the game would have been wrapped up at an early stage.”

…Augsburg’s late goals:

“We didn’t defend both goals well enough in the centre and on the wings. I knew that if Augsburg score one we would face an all-out attack. The way it went, we can take a lot from this game. We shouldn’t have conceded the goals in the way we did. Once again after a game in Augsburg, I feel that we have achieved a very good result here and other teams will surely struggle here too. That’s why I’m happy that we’ve already played Augsburg.”

… Marco Reus and BVB’s attack:

“This was the kind of 100 percent he was able to give today. A few players were starting to struggle around the 60-minute mark, which is quite understandable. Auba played in three positions and covered a lot of ground. Attacking-wise, the lads took a great step forward today. This is just the beginning of the season and eventually everyone will get back on track again.”
