A very effective Cologne side claimed their first home win of the season on Saturday – even if Marco Reus had as many shots on goal as they did. Enjoying only 35 percent possession and having only five shots on goal (to BVB’s 16), Cologne nicked a fortunate win while Borussia, despite having Ilkay Gündogan, Marco Reus and Henrikh Mkhitaryan back from injury, suffered their third defeat in a row.

Comeback I: Marco Reus had a hand in half of BVB’s 16 shots on goal in the first half. Despite being out injured for a long time, the Germany international already picked up his third assist of the season when he set up the first goal.

Comeback II: 434 days after his last competitive game in a BVB shirt, Ilkay Gündogan made his return to action.

Lack of threat: Borussia Dortmund showed a lot of urgency after the interval but they still had only one shot on target – Ciro Immobile’s equaliser shortly after the restart.

Defeat: BVB suffered their third defeat in a row, something that has happened only once before under Jürgen Klopp (beginning of 2010).

New role: Kevin Grosskreutz was played at left-back for the first time this season, though it is not an unfamiliar role for the all-round player as he had deputised in that position in previous seasons.

A first: Cologne celebrated their first home win in four games this season. They also scored their first home goals of the 2014/15 campaign, scoring with two of their five shots.

Win against bogey team: After eleven games without a win against BVB – including eight straight defeats – Cologne celebrated their first victory over BVB in over eleven years.
