Borussia Dortmund have kept a clean sheet in the Champions League for the fourth match in a row. Sokratis Papastathopoulos is one of the reasons for this. The Greek was solid throughout at left-back and put in an “outstanding performance”, according to Hans-Joachim Watzke.

“Papa“, what’s your verdict on the 4-0 victory at Galatasaray?

I’m happy that we finally kept a clean sheet. That was very important. We were very compact and took our chances up front. We finally played like Borussia Dortmund again.

You deputised as left-back. How did you like it?

The coach told me that he needs me to fill in there. It was not a problem for me. I used to play full-back for Bremen, most of the time on the right side, but also once for 30 minutes on the left. However, my favourite position is centre-back.

BVB put themselves in the driving seat for a place in the last 16 of the Champions League. How do you see it?

We have really done well in the Champions League so far. Three wins from three games, it’s a perfect record. We now of course want to come through the group stage as winners, and we have good chances to do so.

How do you explain the different performances of the team in the Bundesliga and Champions League?

We were often lacking luck, and in the Bundesliga every mistake we made recently got punished. And we also had to do without a number of key players. But that’s a thing of the past. Ilkay and Marco, for example, are getting better by the game. The time has come for us to start a winning run. It’s time for a new beginning.

Was the win at Galatasary something like a change for the better?

We will find out on Saturday against Hannover, but I’m optimistic. It’s important that we are compact in every game, not just every now and again. If we do that I’m confident we won’t have any problems in the future.
