With only 48 hours between the arrival from Istanbul and the kick-off of the Bundesliga home game against Hannover 96 on Saturday, Borussia Dortmund’s players have little time to shake off the knocks they picked up against Galatasaray.

“If we asked them, they would say all they carry a knock. And that’s why we don’t ask,” joked Jürgen Klopp on Thursday afternoon, adding: “The final training is tomorrow, and I hope they will all return.”

The biggest injury concern is over Sven Bender who was taken to the Knappschaft hospital in Brackel after the team’s return from Istanbul for further checks on an arm injury. “The scans in Istanbul didn’t show any damage, so it looks like nothing is broken,” said Klopp, adding that Bender was unable to move the arm at first, though his condition has improved since Wednesday night. “It could have been a pinched nerve,” the Dortmund coach assumed.

Klopp also said that the substitution of Mats Hummels was precautionary, while Shinji Kagawa came off with cramps. Ilkay Gündogan has been feeling sore from the physical strain, which is not unusual after such a long spell out. Eric Durm (muscular problems) was unable to return to full training on Thursday, which the Dortmund coach did not take as a positive omen, though there’s still a bit of time left until Saturday.
